The Gaylord Blue Devils will be playing in front of their home fans against the Boyne City Ramblers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Gaylord focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Thursday.
Gaylord pushed their score all the way to 69, but even that wasn't enough to win. They received a tough blow as they fell 87-69 to Traverse City Central. Gaylord has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
The losing side was boosted by Luke Gelow, who scored 42 points. That was a full 60.9% of Gaylord's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Torino Lamerato, who scored eight points.
Meanwhile, Boyne City didn't have too much trouble with East Jordan on the road on Thursday as they won 53-37. Given Boyne City's advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 192nd, while East Jordan is ranked 432nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Gaylord has not been sharp recently as the team has lost nine of their last 12 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season. As for Boyne City, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-7.
Gaylord came out on top in a nail-biter against Boyne City when the teams last played back in January of 2023, sneaking past 50-47. Will Gaylord repeat their success, or does Boyne City have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
