WPIAL AAA Northeastern recap October 1, 2013
Adding to the longest winning streak in WPIAL AAA Northeastern this week, Mars beat Greensburg Salem 38-13. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
Hampton scaled the state rankings by moving to 271 from 308 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Talbots climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Knoch 20-9.
Kyle Holmes provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Derry lost to Hollidaysburg. He completed 12 passes for 114 yards and also ran for 65 yards. Holmes' favorite target this week was Austin Hess, who caught 3 passes for 36 yards.
Sean Daugherty was the best receiver in the league this week as the Knights fell to Hampton. Daugherty tallied 4 receptions for 72 yards. James Larrimer helped Knoch's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 30 yards.
6-foot-1 quarterback Daniel Farinelli of Knoch is the league leader in passing yards this season with 638. He has also thrown 6 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Ryan Waltz. The Hollidaysburg star has 13 catches for 313 yards.
Next week's game between Mike King's team and Franklin Regional will feature an aerial matchup as Farinelli tests his arm against Colin Jonov's defensive ability.
The Panthers are currently in third, while the Knights are in fourth.
The Golden Tigers took down the Trojans 57-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Reid Miller ran for 104 yards and caught 1 pass for 57 yards during the win.
