The West Essex Knights pushed their score all the way to 57 on Wednesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 65-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of Millburn. While losing is never fun, West Essex can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey basketball rankings (they are ranked 218th, while Millburn is ranked 21st).
Millburn's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Chase Plotkin led the charge by scoring 20 points. Zach Benmorits was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with five rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for West Essex and nudges their season record down to 3-5. As for Millburn, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 8-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Essex will take on Montclair at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Millburn, they will head out on the road to face off against University at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
