Downingtown West and Avon Grove are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Whippets will challenge the Red Devils at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Avon Grove took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Downingtown West, who comes in off a win.
Downingtown West was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Kennett on Tuesday. The Whippets put the hurt on the Blue Demons with a sharp 16-1 win. The Whippets' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Austen Frye looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk).

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brett Connolly, who fired off two home runs, seven RBI, and three runs while going 2-for-2. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 3.7 RBI per game. Another player making a difference was Andrew Crowley, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Downingtown West always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Avon Grove came up short against Bayard Rustin on Friday, falling 9-3.
Logan Nelson made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 2-for-3. Jackson Mills also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Downingtown West's victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-6. As for Avon Grove, they now have a losing record of 4-5.
Downingtown West came out on top in a nail-biter against Avon Grove in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 2-0. Do the Whippets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Red Devils turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
