The Tellico Plains Bears''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their eighth straight loss. They fell 51-38 to McMinn Central. While losing is never fun, Tellico Plains can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee football rankings (they are ranked 324th, while McMinn Central is ranked 139th).
Despite the loss, Tellico Plains still got an impressive performance from Chance Shapiro, who rushed for 215 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.2 yards per carry. Shapiro's longest rush was for an incredible 75 yards. Omar Miller also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Tellico Plains' defeat was their sixth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 1-8. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 14.0 points per game. As for McMinn Central, the win was the third in a row for they, bringing their record for this year to 7-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Tellico Plains will face off against Wartburg Central at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for McMinn Central, they will head out on the road to face off against Chattanooga Central on Thursday.
