The Seymour Thunder will square off against the Fox Valley Lutheran Foxes at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.
Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Seymour turned things around against Notre Dame Academy on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 10-1 margin over the Tritons. That looming 10-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Thunder yet this season.
Kendra Rettler spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on six hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Addison Wery and Lyla Schueler did most of the damage at the plate: Wery got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one triple, one run, and one RBI, while Schueler went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those two hits gave Schueler a new career-high. Gillian Herrala was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Fox Valley Lutheran put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They never let Oconto Falls get on the board and left with a 12-0 win. Considering the Foxes have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Brianna Dahlke and Madison Babcock made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Dahlke tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Babcock struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). At the plate, Dahlke went 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI, while Babcock got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Nora Probst was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Claire Pfrang, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base.
Fox Valley Lutheran always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .581. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Oconto Falls only posted an OBP of .211.
Fox Valley Lutheran's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-0. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Seymour, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
Everything went Seymour's way against Fox Valley Lutheran in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Seymour made off with a 14-3 victory. Do the Thunder have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Foxes turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
