Boulder is 0-7 against Arvada West since December of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Boulder Panthers will head out on the road to face off against the Arvada West Wildcats at 5:30 p.m. Boulder is hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Last Monday, Boulder earned a 43-35 victory over Heritage.
Megan Matthews was her usual excellent self, scoring 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Adah Ellis-rissler, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, Arvada West was just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 53-52 to Vista PEAK Prep. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Arvada West came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 30th, while Vista PEAK Prep is ranked 131st).
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Avery Harrison, who scored 20 points along with eight rebounds. Those 20 points set a new season-high mark for her. Saylor Swanson was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with five rebounds.
Even though they lost, Arvada West were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Boulder's victory bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Arvada West, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-2.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Boulder have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 26.3 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Arvada West struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 33.3 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Boulder was dealt a bruising 69-25 defeat at the hands of Arvada West in their previous meeting back in December of 2022.
