The Richmond Bobcats are taking a road trip to square off against the Carrabec Cobras at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Richmond has given up an average of 10.5 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
While Richmond's win against Vinalhaven wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Bobcats narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Vikings 13-12. The high-scoring effort was just what the Bobcats needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.
Meanwhile, Carrabec hadn't done well against Telstar recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Cobras put the hurt on the Rebels with a sharp 15-1 win. The Cobras might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by seven runs or more this season.
Jillian Robinson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up ten Ks. Those ten strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
At the plate, Carrabec let Aiyana Tibbetts and Karen Baker run wild. Tibbetts went 3-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases, while Baker went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Tibbetts is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Adawna Landry, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Carrabec was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in six consecutive contests.
Richmond's record is now 7-8. As for Carrabec, their record now sits at 11-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Richmond has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Carrabec struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Richmond couldn't quite finish off Carrabec when the teams last played on May 2nd and fell 16-14. Can the Bobcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
