Rockville is preparing for their first region matchup of the season on Monday. They will be playing in front of their home fans against the Richard Montgomery Rockets at 3:45 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Rockville came out on top against Wheaton on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive nine-run sixth inning. The Rams were the clear victors by a 13-4 margin over the Knights. The result was nothing new for the Rams, who have now won four games by eight runs or more so far this season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Richard Montgomery, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They never let Northwood get on the board and left with a 25-0 victory on Friday. The win continues a trend for the Rockets in their matchups with the Gladiators: they've now won seven in a row.
Donovan Ford made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Richard Montgomery is undefeated when he allows at most three earned runs, but 0-10-1 otherwise. Ford was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Elliott Reich was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Connor Kaplan, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
Richard Montgomery kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.4 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 11.2.
The victory got Rockville back to even at 4-4. As for Richard Montgomery, their win bumped their record up to 3-10-1.
Rockville couldn't quite get it done against Richard Montgomery in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 as they fell 9-4. Will the Rams have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
