Decatur and Beamer are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. The Golden Gators will take on the Titans at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Beamer took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Decatur, who comes in off a win.
On Monday, Decatur made easy work of Kent-Meridian and carried off a 21-1 win. The Golden Gators might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by 11 runs or more this season.
Jordin Prum made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Prum was even better at the plate, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double. She also got a hit, marking her first of the season.
In other batting news, Sam Hackney was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Audrey Deviney also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Decatur always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .842. The last time their OBP was this high was was before the start of last season.
Federal Way hit Beamer with a 12-run first inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Titans lost 18-6 to the Eagles. The Titans haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.
Leo Wilcox and Kiana-Nikole Smiley did some serious damage despite the final result: Wilcox went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Smiley earned two runs and three stolen bases. Another player making a difference was Asialynn Solia, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.
Beamer's defeat dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Decatur, their record now sits at 5-3.
Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Decatur has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .559. However, it's not like Beamer struggles in that department as they've averaged .475. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Decatur took their victory against Beamer in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 17-4 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Golden Gators since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
