West Mesa is a perfect 10-0 against Rio Grande since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Mustangs will be playing at home against the Ravens at 4:00 p.m. West Mesa will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
Having struggled with five defeats in a row, West Mesa turned things around against Del Norte on Monday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Knights a 19-0 shutout. Considering the Mustangs have won eight games by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
The result came thanks to Shyloh Aguilar's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

Baca wasn't the only one making solid contact: West Mesa kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 21 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in eight consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 22 runs the game before, Rio Grande was a bit more limited in their matchup on Monday. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of Manzano.
Rio Grande saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jaslyn Gallegos, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Jenessa Purcella was another, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.

Rio Grande's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: West Mesa has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11 hits per game. It's a different story for Rio Grande, though, as they've been averaging 13.4 hits. Given West Mesa's sizable advantage in that area, the Ravens will need to find a way to close that gap.
West Mesa took their victory against Rio Grande in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 18-1 score. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Ravens have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
