The North Star Cougars stacked a sixth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Monday. They were the clear victor by a 68-46 margin over Penns Manor. The score was close at the half, but North Star pulled away in the second half with 37 points.
North Star was led to victory by Brady Weimer and Andy Retassie. Weimer scored 21 points, while Retassie almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine assists. Weimer is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. Another player making a difference was Ethan Smith, who scored six points along with ten rebounds and four steals.
Penns Manor's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dylan Kuzemchak, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and two steals. Kuzemchak is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Smith, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Even though they lost, Penns Manor smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. This was only their 11th loss (out of 16 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
The win makes it two in a row for North Star and bumps their season record up to 12-5. As for Penns Manor, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 6-14.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. North Star will take on the Vikings at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Glendale will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings (they are ranked 642nd, while the Cougars are ranked 278th). As for Penns Manor, they will be playing at home against the Panthers at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. River Valley is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 56.7 points per game this season.
