Softball Recap: Lorain Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Win

Lorain waltzed into their matchup on Monday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They were the clear victors by a 17-4 margin over the Garfield Heights Bulldogs. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 16-1 last Monday.

Olivia Charlton and Ja'Ly Cortes did most of the damage at the plate: Charlton went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one triple, while Cortes got on base in all four of her plate appearances with five stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Cortes has been hot, having posted two or more stolen bases the last five times she's played. Alysandria Lighty also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.

Lorain always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .581. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .581 or higher in eight consecutive games.

Lorain's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 19.0 runs over those games. As for Garfield Heights, they are on an 11-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.
