Yucca Valley is a perfect 5-0 against Banning since September of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Trojans will host the Broncos at 7:00 p.m. Yucca Valley is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 31.2 points per game this season.
Yucca Valley took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They blew past Desert Hot Springs 28-7. The win continues a trend for the Trojans in their matchups with the Golden Eagles: they've now won nine in a row.
Yucca Valley's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aiden Shannon, who threw for 162 yards and two TDs while completing 77.8% of his passes, and also rushed for 36 yards and one score. Clyde King was another key rusher, rushing for 132 yards and one touchdown.
Yucca Valley didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Desert Hot Springs to a completion percentage of just 37.5%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from four players: King, Seth Mauk, Bryan Minsky, and Gage Lawler, who each logged one passes deflected. Yucca Valley has been improving in that area: they had allowed a completion percentage of 0.61 earlier this season, but they've only allowed one of 0.61 in their last three games.
Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Banning beat Rialto 41-37 two weeks ago.
Banning's win came from a few key players Yucca Valley will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was JACOB ANZALDUA, who threw for 408 yards and five TDs. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 317.2 passing yards per game. Banning's leading receiver JMARI GARLINGTON was ANZALDUA's top target yet again, picking up 207 receiving yards and a pair of scores.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Banning's defensive line and their six sacks. Rialto's QB won't forget GEOVONTAE JOHNSON anytime soon given he sacked him twice. JOHNSON has been hot, having also posted five or more total tackles the last seven times he's played. NATHAN MANESS was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making 17 total tackles.
The win got Yucca Valley back to even at 3-3. As for Banning, their victory bumped their record up to 4-1.
The upcoming matchup will be a clash of competing strengths. Yucca Valley has deployed a run-first offense that has averaged 172.7 rushing yards a game. Meanwhile, Banning has preferred to attack from the air: they average 321.4 passing yards per game. So which strategy will prevail on Friday? There's only one way to find out.
Everything came up roses for Yucca Valley against Banning when the teams last played back in September of 2023, as the team secured a 56-0 win. Will the Trojans repeat their success, or do the Broncos have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
