Baseball Game Preview: Spokane Owls vs. Marionville Comets

The Spokane Owls will head out to take on the Marionville Comets at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Marionville took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Spokane, who comes in off a win.

Spokane is headed into the contest having just posted their closest win since April 9th on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Sparta 4-3.

Landon Dollarhide tossed a big game, striking out six batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off eight hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Kash Burk was incredible, going 3-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Coy Cutbirth, who got on base in four of his six plate appearances with two doubles and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Marionville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of Mt. Vernon.

Marionville saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bryer Guerin, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run. Kannon Mace also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Spokane is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-13 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Marionville, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-16.

Spokane came out on top in a nail-biter against Marionville when the teams last played back in May of 2025, sneaking past 7-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Owls since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
