The South Paulding Spartans were the 28-24 winner over the Douglas County Tigers when they last played one another back in November of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. South Paulding's rough 30-7 defeat to Douglas County on Friday might stick with them for a while. South Paulding was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 23-0.
Kade Wigginton threw for 106 yards and a touchdown while completing 100% of his passes. Dj Reese was his top target, picking up 64 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Douglas County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Rah'keith Kelly, who rushed for 120 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.1 yards per carry. The team also got some help courtesy of Zamarcus Lindley, who rushed for 115 yards on only 13 carries.
This is the second loss in a row for South Paulding and nudges their season record down to 3-7. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 8-2 Langston Hughes (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 90% over those games). As for Douglas County, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 10-0.
South Paulding will head out on the road to face off against Gainesville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Gainesville will be looking to keep their five-game home win streak alive. As for Douglas County, they will face off against Habersham Central at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Habersham Central will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings (they are ranked 206th, while Douglas County is ranked ninth).
