Softball Recap: Fond Du Lac's Luck Changes for the Better on Monday

Fond du Lac had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Oshkosh North Spartans on Monday. The Cardinals might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by seven runs or more this season.

Susan Vokes made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and not a single walk). Vokes was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lillian Birschbach, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last ten games. Mackenna Shulits was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and one double.

Fond du Lac always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Oshkosh North only posted an OBP of .300.

Fond du Lac's win bumped their record up to 14-11. As for Oshkosh North, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-10-1.

Looking ahead, Fond du Lac will challenge Appleton West at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Terrors have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.24 runs per game on average), something the Cardinals will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Oshkosh North, they will head out on the road to take on Kimberly at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Spartans are facing the Papermakers at the right time seeing as the Papermakers are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
