It was a good run, but the Shakamak Lakers unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Thursday. They took a 52-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of Eastern Greene. Shakamak has struggled against Eastern Greene recently, as their match on Thursday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Several Lakers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Elayni Stone, who scored nine points along with five assists and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Herrador-Gonzalez, who scored ten points.
Eastern Greene got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Keylee Hudson out in front who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds. Hudson hasn't dropped below 15points for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Mallorie Elliott, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Shakamak's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-6. As for Eastern Greene, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Shakamak will take on Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in their respective state's rankings (they are ranked 592nd in Illinois, while Shakamak is ranked 177th in Indiana). As for Eastern Greene, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Bloomington South at 1:30 p.m. on January 20th. Bloomington South is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
