Iona Prep extended their winning streak to five on Tuesday, bumping their season record up to 12-4-1 in the process. Everything went their way against the Moore Catholic Mavericks as they made off with an 11-1 win. The Gaels might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by seven runs or more this season.
Shane Jelenevsky tossed a big game, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Devin Diaz was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Mueller, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Iona Prep always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Moore Catholic only posted an OBP of .211.
