The Weeki Wachee Hornets have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matchups by 29 points or more this season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Thursday as they easily beat Gulf 67-29 on the road. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 40-17.
Weeki Wachee got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Paige Atwater out in front who scored 22 points along with five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Joelys Rodriguez, who scored 15 points along with five assists and four steals.
Brenniyah Hall and Ariana Rodriguez certainly did their best on Thursday to try and avoid the loss. Hall scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and six steals, while Rodriguez scored six points along with ten rebounds. Hall is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season.
Weeki Wachee has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. As for Gulf, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Weeki Wachee is on the road again on Thursday and play against Mitchell at 10:30 a.m. on January 4th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Florida (Mitchell is ranked 185th, while Weeki Wachee is ranked 162nd). As for Gulf, they will head out on the road to face off against Calvary Christian at 6:00 p.m. on January 5th.
