The West Middlesex Big Reds will challenge the Reynolds Raiders at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. West Middlesex is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
West Middlesex will bounce into Thursday's matchup after beating Sharpsville, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. The Big Reds were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over the Blue Devils on Wednesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Big Reds.
Harper Nickel (Waynesburg) made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Nevaeh Lapcevich was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Haley Gioan was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
West Middlesex hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Reynolds was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They came up short against Maplewood, falling 13-3.
Reynolds saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sophia Guzman, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one double.
Reynolds' loss dropped their record down to 0-5. As for West Middlesex, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
West Middlesex's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's game. The Big Reds have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Reynolds, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will West Middlesex continue to outrun the ball?
Everything went West Middlesex's way against Reynolds when the teams last played back in May of 2025, as West Middlesex made off with a 12-0 win. Do the Big Reds have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Raiders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
