The Omaha Westside Warriors waltzed into their contest on Friday with two straight wins but they left with three. They put the hurt on Millard South with a sharp 86-62 win. Given Omaha Westside's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked seventh, while Millard South is ranked 97th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Caleb Benning, who scored 16 points along with six assists and four steals. It was the first time this season that he scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Rickey Loftin, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Despite the loss, Millard South had strong showings from Bernie Anderson, who scored 20 points along with two steals, and Isaac Jensen, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Koby Meyers, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds.
Omaha Westside has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. As for Millard South, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Omaha Westside will take on Omaha North at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Millard South is on the road again on Tuesday and plays Millard West at 7:15 p.m. on February 13th. Hopefully Millard South focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Friday.
