The Mountain Ridge Miners had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They skirted past Southern 50-47. That's another feather in the cap for Mountain Ridge, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Mountain Ridge got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Ian Duncan out in front who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Duncan pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen McGeady, who scored 14 points.
The victory got Mountain Ridge back to even at 4-4. As for Southern, they bumped their record down to 4-3 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mountain Ridge will take on Fort Hill at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Southern, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Allegany at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Allegany knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven matchups -- so hopefully Southern likes a good challenge.
