The Selah Vikings will face off against the Cedarcrest Red Wolves at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Selah will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.
Selah is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Washington's top teams: Othello, who was ranked 13th at the time (Selah was ranked sixth). The Vikings came out on top against the Huskies by a score of 4-1 last Tuesday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Meanwhile, Cedarcrest won against Evergreen last Tuesday with nine runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. Everything went the Red Wolves' way against Sultan as they made off with a 9-1 win. The Red Wolves might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 contests by seven runs or more this season.
Colt Norris tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over 6.2 innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high.
At the plate, Cedarcrest let Luke Thompson and Carter Smith run wild. Thompson went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base, while Smith went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most runs Thompson has posted since back in April. Murphy Vliem was another key player, going 2-for-4 with four RBI and one stolen base.
Cedarcrest kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive matchups.
Selah pushed their record up to 22-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Cedarcrest, their victory bumped their record up to 20-6.
Everything went Selah's way against Cedarcrest in their previous matchup back in May of 2016, as Selah made off with a 14-3 win. Do the Vikings have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Red Wolves turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
