The Point Loma Pointers will head out on the road to face off against the Scripps Ranch Falcons at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Point Loma's pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so Scripps Ranch's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Point Loma barely beat Patrick Henry the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Pointers were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Patriots on Friday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Pointers needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.
Ella Poulin and Remington Spangler made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Poulin pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. Meanwhile, Spangler tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances. At the plate, Poulin went 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs, while Spangler went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI. Those three hits gave Poulin a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sage Nelson, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Siena Balistreri, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one double.
Point Loma always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Patrick Henry only posted an OBP of .240.
Meanwhile, Scripps Ranch posted their closest win since March 24th on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over Rancho Buena Vista.
Sarah Cornelissen was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Eme Ledbetter also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Point Loma is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Scripps Ranch, they now have a winning record of 9-8-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Point Loma has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Scripps Ranch struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Point Loma came out on top in a nail-biter against Scripps Ranch in their previous meeting back in May of 2025, sneaking past 2-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pointers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
