Carrizo Springs is 0-6 against Somerset since March of 2022 but things could change on Tuesday. The Carrizo Springs Wildcats will host the Somerset Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Carrizo Springs took a 22-run loss the last time they faced off against Devine, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Carrizo Springs won by a run and slipped past Devine 10-9.
James Botello was incredible, scoring three runs while going 4-for-4. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Carmine Perez, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double.
Meanwhile, Somerset scored the most runs they've had this season on Saturday, but it wasn't enough. They fell just short of Lytle by a score of 19-17. The Bulldogs' defeat continues a trend for the team, making it five in a row.
Eleazar Hernandez made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Theodore Perez, who scored three runs while getting on base in two of his five plate appearances.
Carrizo Springs pushed their record up to 11-1 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.9 runs over those games. As for Somerset, they now have a losing record of 8-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Carrizo Springs has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Somerset struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Carrizo Springs couldn't quite finish off Somerset in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 and fell 2-0. Can Carrizo Springs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
