Randolph County's Ty Sparks recorded the longest rushing play in 2A Region 5 this season in his game against Lanett last week.
Reeltown extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Montgomery Academy, 34-10. The victory was the sixth in a row for the Rebels.
Horseshoe Bend's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Chase Cheaney threw for 248 and two touchdowns and Corey Glenn had 101 yards receiving. On the ground Cory Battle chipped in 166 yards. Battle helped Horseshoe Bend's passing attack out by catching two balls for 60 yards.
The Tigers' Sparks and Willis Knight have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Sparks has thrown for 1289 yards this season, while Knight, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has 28 catches for 556 yards. Battle from the Generals leads the league in rushing with 1093 yards.
A big matchup in 2A Region 5 this week will be when Randolph County takes on Horseshoe Bend. Randy Sparks' team is currently in fourth, while Jason Franklin's team is in third.
There should be lots of points scored when the Tigers and the Generals face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Randolph County comes in having scored 209 this season, while Horseshoe Bend has scored 304. The Tigers scored 27 points last week as they fell to the Panthers.
Lanett and Randolph County played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Lanett eventually emerging with a 33-27 victory.
