The Shaw Raiders's game on Friday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They breezed by Cairo on the road to the tune of 53-25. Given Shaw's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 209th, while Cairo is ranked 423rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Shaw's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tiara Tucker led the charge by scoring 23 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Tucker has scored at least a third of Shaw's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Quishyi Walcott, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Shaw's win bumped their record up to 11-7. As for Cairo, they bumped their record down to 1-14 with that loss, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season.
Shaw will take on Westover at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Cairo, Cairo and Thomas County Central will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 16th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Thomas County Central and Cairo are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads.
