The Mountain View Bruins will head out on the road to challenge the Provo Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Mountain View posted their closest win yet this season on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Payson and snuck past 55-53.
Mountain View's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Coleman Pearson led the charge by scoring 17 points along with two steals. That's the first time this season that Pearson scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Hunter Kaopua, who scored eight points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Provo narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Layton Christian Academy 60-57. The win was all the more spectacular given Provo's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 48th, while Layton Christian Academy is ranked fifth).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Provo to victory, but perhaps none more so than Finn Powelson, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds and five steals. Powelson has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Jason Carter was another key contributor, scoring 17 points.
Mountain View is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. As for Provo, their victory bumped their record up to 11-7.
Mountain View strolled past Provo when the teams last played back in December of 2021 by a score of 56-41. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mountain View since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
