The Armwood Hawks suffered their closest loss yet this season on Tuesday. They fell just short of East Bay by a score of 58-55. Armwood's loss continues an unfortunate trend for the squad, making it seven in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Armwood lost, one person who can't be blamed is Talon Mckinnie. Despite the final result, he scored 15 points along with nine rebounds and four steals. That's the first time this season that Mckinnie pulled down eight or more rebounds. Miles Davis was another key contributor, scoring six points along with seven rebounds.
Even though they lost, Armwood smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
East Bay was led to victory by Aaron Quarterman and Kamren Lovett. Quarterman scored 16 points along with three steals, while Lovett dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds. Lovett hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Curry Staples, who scored nine points.
Armwood has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost 11 of their last 12 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-13 record this season. As for East Bay, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-9.
Armwood will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against Middleton at 8:00 p.m. on January 17th. Middleton has now lost nine straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 6. As for East Bay, they will be playing at home against Riverview at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Bryson Kearney and Quarterman.
