Basketball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Whiteland

Whiteland had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.3 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Jennings County Panthers, sneaking past 67-65. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Warriors have posted since December 27, 2024.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Whiteland to victory, but perhaps none more so than Gavin Stubbe, who en route to 17 points. Stubbe's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least 17 points. Ethan Edwards was another key player, putting up 18 points.

Despite the loss, Jennings County still got an impressive performance from Carter Kent, who almost dropped a double-double with 27 points and nine rebounds. That was a full 41.5% of Jennings County's points, marking the third time in a row Kent has posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Jeremiah Davis, who on his way to 17 points.

Whiteland pushed their record up to 12-11 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.3 points over those games. As for Jennings County, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-13 record this season.

Whiteland and Jennings County should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings. Whiteland will face off against Beech Grove at 7:30 p.m. on Friday up 125 places (85 vs. 210). Whiteland is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61.6 points per game this season. Similarly, Jennings County (ranked 109th) will meet Scottsburg (ranked 239th) at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
