Basketball Recap: Northern Skates Past Patuxent with Ease

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Northern). They claimed a resounding 91-52 win over the Patuxent Panthers. The Patriots have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matchups by 20 points or more this season.

It was another big night for Alec Johnson, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 21 rebounds. The game was his third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeremiah Byrd, who went 7 of 13 on his way to 19 points.

Northern was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Several Panthers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kamauri Jones, who went 8 for 13 on his way to 19 points. Those 19 points gave Jones a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaden Elliott, who posted six points in addition to nine boards and four blocks.

The victory was the fourth in a row for Northern, bringing their record for this year to 8-1. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.5 points per game. As for Patuxent, their defeat was their seventh straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Northern will square off against St. Charles at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Patuxent, they will face off against Chopticon at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
