Bremen extended their losing streak to five on Tuesday, dropping them down to 4-13. They fell 12-7 to the Knox Redskins. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Redskins this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-1 back in April.
Bremen saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Eliana Grubbs, who went 3-for-5 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run. Another was Makenzie Shumaker, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
As for Knox, they pushed their record up to 15-3 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games.
On Knox's side, Cheryl Barnes was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over 4.2 innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Barnes has posted over her last eight matchups. She was also big at the plate, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Da'Miya Sherrod, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Elise Wolff was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bremen will face off against Glenn at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Lions' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Falcons have averaged an impressive 8.1 runs per game this season. As for Knox, they will challenge Triton at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Trojans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.83 runs per game on average), something the Redskins will no doubt try to take advantage of.
