The Apollo Ridge Vikings will square off against the Brentwood Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Apollo Ridge is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.9 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, Apollo Ridge earned a 9-5 victory over Northgate. The Vikings haven't had any issues with the Flames recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.
Jocelyn Snyder made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Cassidy Ryan was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Olivia Saxion was another key player, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Brentwood). They put the hurt on Shady Side Academy with a sharp 15-5 victory on Wednesday. Winning may never get old, but the Spartans sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Carma Coberly was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, five RBI, and two doubles. The team also got some help courtesy of Paige Boehm, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
Brentwood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Shady Side Academy only posted an OBP of .231.
Apollo Ridge's win bumped their record up to 10-2. As for Brentwood, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.
Apollo Ridge took their win against Brentwood in their previous meeting two weeks ago by a conclusive 15-1 score. Do the Vikings have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Spartans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
