I Sunset - Northwest recap Oct. 9, 2012
Arbor View extended the longest winning streak in I Sunset - Northwest this week by beating Durango, 34-3. The victory was the sixth in a row for the Aggies.
Palo Verde's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Parker Rost threw for 123 and two touchdowns and Jake Ortale had 94 yards receiving. On the ground Lee Griggs chipped in 150 yards. Ryan Beaulieu helped Palo Verde's passing attack out by catching three balls for 29 yards.
Deyon Mckinney provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Sierra Vista fell to Shadow Ridge. He completed five passes for 122 yards and one touchdown and also ran for 112 yards. Mckinney's favorite target this week was Javen Nihipali, who caught one pass for 63 yards.
The Mustangs' Bakari Smith and Marquise Evans have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Smith has thrown for 1118 yards this season, while Evans, a 6-foot-4 receiver, has 25 catches for 588 yards. Mckinney from the Mountain Lions leads the league in rushing with 678 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Arbor View takes on Shadow Ridge. At the moment, the Aggies are in first, while Frank Tousa's team is in third.
The Mustangs led I Sunset - Northwest in scoring this week after putting up 55 points on Sierra Vista.
