Baseball Recap: Coronado Triumphs

Coronado's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They never let the Clark Chargers get on the board and left with a 5-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Chargers: they've now won three in a row.

Gavin Rogers made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Coronado is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 5-14 otherwise. Rogers was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

In other pitching news, Ryder Metz looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Hudson Jones, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Dillon Victoravich, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Coronado was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Clark only posted a batting average of .250.

Coronado's record is now 7-15. As for Clark, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-8.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Coronado will venture away from home to challenge The Meadows School at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 6.3 runs per game this season. As for Clark, they will head out on the road to square off against Pahrump Valley at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
