Softball Recap: Fall River Comes Up Short

Fall River had lost seven straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 2-13 to make it eight. They came up short against the Burney Raiders, falling 21-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Raiders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 on Tuesday.

Fall River saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaydence Babcock, who went 2-for-3 with one triple.

As for Burney, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 13-2. The result was nothing new for the Raiders, who have now won eight matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

On Burney's side, Mia Perez and Alexis Witzel made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Perez pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Witzel tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Perez has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season. At bat, Perez went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and one stolen base, while Witzel got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those four hits gave Perez a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Natalia Maldonado, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Emily Aubuchon, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one run.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fall River will venture away from home to take on Etna at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Burney, they will head out to square off against CORE Butte at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Raiders are facing the Lynx at the right time seeing as the Lynx are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
