The Mt. Olive Wildcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their sixth straight defeat. They were dealt a 75-40 defeat at the hands of Edinburg. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Mt. Olive of the 66-39 loss they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2023.
Mt. Olive's loss came despite strong showings from Matthew Bywater and Briley Viviano. Bywater scored 14 points along with six rebounds and four steals, while Viviano scored ten points. That was a full 35% of Mt. Olive's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Brunnworth, who scored seven points along with five rebounds.
Mt. Olive has been struggling recently as they've lost 12 of their last 13 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-20 record this season. As for Edinburg, they now have a winning record of 14-13.
Mt. Olive will head out on the road to face off against the Oilers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. East Alton-Wood River is on a nine-game streak of home losses, the Wildcats an 11-game streak of away losses (dating back to last season), but someone's luck is about to change. Edinburg will take on the Maroons at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
