The Mt. St. Joseph Academy Green Wave's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. Their tough 45-23 defeat to Granville might stick with them for a while. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Mt. St. Joseph Academy came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 43rd in Vermont, while Granville is ranked 461st in New York).
Granville found their leader in underclassman Ella Olsen, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds. Olsen is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Melissa Beaver was another key contributor, scoring three points along with 11 assists and five steals.
Mt. St. Joseph Academy has not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-6 record this season. As for Granville, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mt. St. Joseph Academy will face off against Otter Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Otter Valley is out to stop a six-game streak of losses at home. Granville will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against Saratoga Central Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on January 29th.
