The Southern Academy Cougars are taking a road trip to square off against the Coosa Valley Academy Rebels at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
Southern Academy is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Jackson Academy just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell 11-8 to the Eagles.

Wyatt Martin was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He struck out six batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Drew Rogers and BoBraeden Agee stepped up to the plate in a big way. Rogers scored a run while going 3-for-5, while Agee scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits Agee has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Mason Turner, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Even though they lost, Southern Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jackson Academy only managed six hits.
Meanwhile, Coosa Valley Academy had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14 runs) and they went ahead and made it three last Tuesday. They blew past the Eagles 12-1. Considering the Rebels have won eight matchups by more than ten runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Sam Setzer was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 4-for-4. He has become a key player for Coosa Valley Academy: the team is 8-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-10 otherwise.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jake McArthur, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Coosa Valley Academy is undefeated when McArthur posts two or more runs, but 3-11 otherwise. Jay Chapman also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.
Southern Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 8-5. As for Coosa Valley Academy, their record now sits at 9-11.
Southern Academy skirted past Coosa Valley Academy 4-3 in their previous meeting two weeks ago. The rematch might be a little tougher for Southern Academy since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
