River Ridge and Wiregrass Ranch are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2016, but likely not for long. The Royal Knights will venture away from home to take on the Bulls at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (River Ridge 3.8, Wiregrass Ranch 3.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.
River Ridge took a six-run loss the last time they faced off against Osceola, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Royal Knights never let the Warriors get on the board and left with a 2-0 win on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Royal Knights have posted since March 7th.
The result came thanks to Lilly Jackson's shutout, as she gave up just three hits.
At the plate, River Ridge saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Olivia James, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Wiregrass Ranch had already won 12 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it 13 on Friday. They put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 15-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Bulls, who have now won eight games by nine runs or more so far this season.
Reagan Beagle made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. Beagle was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with four RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Wiregrass Ranch got a massive performance out of Kayla Valentin, who went 3-for-4 with two triples, three runs, and one RBI. Those two triples gave Valentin a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Zoe Troupe, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Wiregrass Ranch was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .545. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matches.
Wiregrass Ranch's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-3. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for River Ridge, they now have a winning record of 9-8.
River Ridge couldn't quite finish off Wiregrass Ranch when the teams last played back in March and fell 9-7. Can the Royal Knights avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
