The Calvert Cavaliers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fourth straight loss. They fell just short of La Plata by a score of 55-53. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Calvert in their matchups with La Plata: they've now lost five in a row.
Austin Ashley was the offensive standout of the game as he scored 21 points along with nine rebounds and five steals. That's the first time this season that he scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dwayne Liggins, who scored six points along with eight rebounds.
Calvert's defeat dropped their record down to 2-10. As for La Plata, their win bumped their record up to 5-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Calvert will challenge Lackey at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in Lackey's favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while Calvert has been banged up by six consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season. As for La Plata, they will take on St. Charles at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully St. Charles focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Wednesday.
