After both having extra time off, the South Iredell Vikings and the Rocky River Ravens will dust off their jerseys to challenge one another at 10:00 a.m. on December 28th. South Iredell is coming into the game on a six-game losing streak.
South Iredell struggled with offensive rebounds last Friday (Alexander Central had 13 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. South Iredell took a 63-47 bruising from Alexander Central. While losing is never fun, South Iredell can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 349th, while Alexander Central is ranked seventh).
Kayden Johnson put forth a good effort for the losing side as she scored 26 points along with five rebounds. She scored a full 55.3% of South Iredell's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Madison Schramm, who scored seven points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 62-20, which was the final score in Rocky River's tilt against Charlotte Catholic last Friday. Rocky River has not had much luck with Charlotte Catholic recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.
South Iredell's loss was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 2-7. That rough patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.0 points per game. As for Rocky River, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5.
Everything came up roses for South Iredell against Rocky River when the teams last played back in December of 2022 as the team secured a 60-29 victory. Will South Iredell repeat their success, or does Rocky River have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
