Two dominant backs in Tyson Sullivan and Kreyton Wiese are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Wallace Wildcats will head out on the road to square off against the Wauneta-Palisade Broncos at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Wallace is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.3 points per game this season.
Wallace barely beat Medicine Valley the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Wildcats claimed a resounding 70-33 win over the Raiders. The Wildcats pushed the score to 58-33 by the end of the third, a deficit the Raiders had little chance of recovering from.
Wallace got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Brayden Gardner out in front who picked up 52 receiving yards and two scores, and also rushed for 54 yards and one TD. Gardner also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, picking up a sack and making ten total tackles (2.0 for loss). Ashtin Johns was another key rusher, rushing for 90 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Wallace was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 399 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 172 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Another reason for the win was Wallace's imposing defensive line, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank two different players for their defensive prowess: Gardner and Sullivan, who each picked up one sack apiece.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 33 points the game before, Wauneta-Palisade was a bit more limited in their game on Friday. They were beaten by Southwest 55-12. The loss continues a trend for the Broncos in their meetings with the Roughriders: they've now lost four in a row.
Although Wauneta-Palisade took the loss, they still got scores from Wiese and David Bryner.
Wallace pushed their record up to 5-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.0 points over those games. As for Wauneta-Palisade, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-2.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Wallace has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 328.5 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Wauneta-Palisade struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 286.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Wallace took a serious blow against Wauneta-Palisade in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, falling 49-22. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Wiese, who rushed for 190 yards and four scores while picking up 9.0 yards per carry. Now that the Wildcats know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
