Basketball Recap: Alexander Central Extends Winning Streak to Three

Alexander Central won the last time they faced Ashe County and things went their way on Friday too. The Alexander Central Cougars walked away with a 61-52 victory over the Ashe County Huskies. The win was nothing new for the Cougars as they're now sitting on three straight.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Alexander Central to victory, but perhaps none more so than Meredith Wike, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 15 rebounds. What's more, Wike also racked up six assists, the most she's had since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Faith Burch, who posted 15 points and eight boards.

Alexander Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in five consecutive games.

Alexander Central's victory bumped their record up to 13-7. As for Ashe County, their loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 9-10.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Alexander Central will head out to square off against Watauga at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Watauga's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six matchups. As for Ashe County, they will head out on the road to take on Hibriten at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
