Mountain Heritage has gone  a perfect 9-0 against Avery County recently and they'll look to pad the win column further  on Friday. The Cougars will head out to  challenge the Vikings  at 7:30  p.m. Avery County took a loss in their last  matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Mountain Heritage, who comes in off a win.
On Friday,  everything came up roses for Mountain Heritage against Polk County as the  squad secured  a  51-8 victory. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won four games by 29  points or more  so far this season.

 Cason Jones was  his usual excellent self, rushing for 124 yards and one  TD on only six carries, while also picking up 93 receiving yards and one  score. Those  93  receiving yards gave  him a new career-high.  Brayden Deyton was another key player, rushing for 35 yards and one  touchdown.
 They were just one part of a punishing run game: Mountain Heritage was unstoppable on the ground and  finished the game with 309  rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Polk County only  rushed for 65.
 Mountain Heritage didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of  Jacob McPeters and  Connor MacIas. McPeters got in on the action too, converting a pick  into a touchdown.
 Meanwhile, Avery County was not able to break out of their rough patch  last Friday as the team picked up their third straight  defeat. They were beaten by Owen 43-15. The Vikings were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at  29-7.
 Mountain Heritage pushed their record up to 5-1 with the  win, which was their third straight  at home. Those  home  victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as  they  averaged 49.7 points over those games. As for Avery County, their loss dropped their record down to 1-5.
 Everything came up roses for Mountain Heritage against Avery County in their previous meeting  back in October of 2024, as the  team secured  a  44-7 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the  squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
