Despite the loss, Christ Chapel Academy had strong showings from Nyanbuot Woul Makec, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds, and Zaria Gaskins, who posted 19 points. That was a full 38% of Christ Chapel Academy's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dasia Smith, who earned six points and five rebounds.
Meanwhile, it was a Battle of the Birds when Fredericksburg Christian faced off against Highland on Friday. The game between Fredericksburg Christian and Highland didn't end well, with Fredericksburg Christian falling 43-28. The matchup marked the Eagles' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Christ Chapel Academy will have to keep a close watch on Riley Thomas and Layna Thomas, a pair of players who had a big impact on Fredericksburg Christian's prior game. Riley had seven points along with five assists and three steals, while Layna posted seven points. Riley has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 15 times she's played.
Christ Chapel Academy now has a losing record at 2-3. As for Fredericksburg Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-2.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Christ Chapel Academy has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 23 boards per game.
