Wheeler is 0-3 against Kennesaw Mountain since November of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Wheeler Wildcats will head out on the road to face off against the Kennesaw Mountain Mustangs at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Wheeler is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Kennesaw Mountain in Georgia (Wheeler is ranked 70th, while Kennesaw Mountain is ranked 207th).
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Wheeler ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They walked away with a 17-10 victory over Osborne. The win was just what Wheeler needed coming off of a 63-27 defeat in their prior contest.
Wheeler's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Marcus Romain led the charge by rushing for 92 yards and a touchdown, while also throwing for 46 yards and a touchdown. Wheeler also got a significant boost from Josiah Allen, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 93 yards.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Osborne to a paltry two yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Wheeler's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out six times before it was all said and done. The heavy lifting was done by Elijah Muhammad and Shamar Yarber who racked up four sacks between them.
Meanwhile, Kennesaw Mountain's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They were dealt a 38-7 defeat at the hands of North Cobb. Kennesaw Mountain was already down big by the end of the third quarter and they stayed that way after failing to score in the fourth.
Despite the defeat, Kennesaw Mountain got a solid performance out of Jeremiah Tatum, who rushed for 90 yards on only nine carries.
Wheeler's win bumped their season record to 6-2 while Kennesaw Mountain's loss dropped theirs to 1-7.
Wheeler couldn't quite finish off Kennesaw Mountain in their previous matchup back in October of 2022 and fell 38-35. Thankfully for Wheeler, Cayden Lee (who picked up 200 receiving yards and three touchdowns) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
