In an exciting match in which no team claimed back-to-back wins, Del Oro sadly wound up on the wrong side. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-16, 17-25, 25-20, 22-25, 15-6.
Despite the defeat, Del Oro got top-tier performance from Lily Smith, who had 17 digs and five assists.
Meanwhile, Saint Mary's came tearing into Saturday's matchup with five straight wins , and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Red Devils by a score of 3-1.
While Saint Mary's might've won, it sure wasn't easy: University scored at least 18 points in every set they played. The final score came out to 25-18, 19-25, 25-18, 25-23.
Del Oro better focus on containing Landry Fa'Afiu and Lucia Parsons as the pair were huge in Saint Mary's win. Fa'Afiu had 16 digs and three assists, while Parsons had four aces and one assist. Those 16 digs gave Fa'Afiu a new career-high. Corinne Jones also deserves some recognition as she served her first ace of the season.
Saint Mary's was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 11 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in three consecutive contests.
Del Oro's loss dropped their record down to 26-11. As for Saint Mary's, their victory bumped their record up to 25-8.
