Grafton is 2-8 against Buckhannon-Upshur since April of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Bearcats will be playing in front of their home fans against the Buccaneers at 6:00 p.m. Grafton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.
Last Saturday, Grafton didn't have quite enough to beat Bridgeport and fell 5-4.
Ruth Horne made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Shyann Trimble was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Buckhannon-Upshur, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 13-7 margin over Elkins on Thursday. The Buccaneers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by six runs or more this season.
Becca Pastorius made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off ten hits. Pastorius was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alyssa Abel, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Madi Knabenshue, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.
Buckhannon-Upshur was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .452. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Buckhannon-Upshur has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Grafton, their loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 6-3.
Grafton came up short against Buckhannon-Upshur in their previous matchup back in March, falling 6-3. Can the Bearcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
